World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators and books. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children and adults to explore the pleasures of book reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. Since 2013, the British Council celebrates World Book Day through a nation-wide book reading campaign for children, young adults and adults in four different groups (Group A,B,C and D). The interested participants read one selected book in a mentioned period. The participants need to sit for an assessment test and winners from different groups are awarded with mega prizes including laptops.
This is the 19th year that World Book Day is being celebrated all over the world. Like previous years, the British Council celebrated World Book Day through a nationwide Book Reading Competition. The assessment test was held on 23 September 2016 in Dhaka and 12 November 2016 in Chittagong. The prize giving ceremony will be held on January 2017 in Dhaka and on 17 December 2016 in Chittagong.
