Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate the achievements of outstanding UK Alumni who have made an impact through their work in their respective fields.

Finalist - Business and Innovation Award

Prof. Khondaker A. Mamun
University of Southampton
An AI researcher and founder of AIMS Lab at UIU, Prof. Khondaker specializes in 4IR technologies, including AI, Big Data, and IoT. With over 200 articles and numerous patents, he is a recipient of the Digital Bangladesh Award 2022. He also founded CMED Health, advancing health inclusion for Universal Health Coverage and consulted for GoB, WHO, UNICEF, ADB and the World Bank, garnering innovation grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Mohsena Khanom
Oxford Brooks University
A Financial Controller in the Public Financial Sector, Mohsena has contributed towards distributing around $6.5Mn investment among 30 Startups. She is also the Co-Founder of De Tempete, a multinational accounting outsourcing firm, that specializes in Virtual CFO services. Mohsena has received various prestigious awards, including the Uddokta Sommanona Award 2022, the National Advocacy Award 2020, and the WE-TARA Women Entrepreneurship Award 2019.

Tanvir Ahmed
Kingston University
Cardiff University
An accomplished Managing Director, Tanvir spearheads Sheltech Group, Envoy Legacy, and Green Textile, playing a key role in substantial contributions to Bangladesh's economic progress. He was recognized as the youngest Commercially Important Person (CIP) by the Government of Bangladesh in 2014 and has received numerous awards, along with being recognized as the MD of the Year 2023 (Large Business category) by C-Suite, Bangladesh Brand Forum.

Dr. Mustak Ibn Ayub
University of Oxford
An educator and researcher, Dr Ayub serves as an assistant professor at the University of Dhaka's Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. His research is focused on translational molecular oncology and deciphering mutation profiles in Bangladeshi cancer patients. As founder and president of CCRTB, he advocates for cancer awareness and research in Bangladesh. He is also an innovative content algorithm creator and a health science TV show host.

Dr. Kamrun Koly
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
Kings College London
An associate scientist and mental health researcher, Dr Kamrun is based at the international health research institution- icddr,b. Her current research focuses on people with dementia and neglected tropical diseases in Bangladesh. She has been recognized with multiple research and social awards including the Mujib-100 years research grant for women and Inspiring Women Volunteer by the United Nations, Bangladesh.

Dr. Alifa Bintha Haque
University of Oxford
An educator at the University of Dhaka's Zoology Department, Alifa leads the Bengal Elasmo Lab. Her research is focused on sustainability models for threatened shark and ray species in the Bay of Bengal. Working with fishing communities, she started "FishSafe," an audio-visual device for sea-by-catch events. Her vision is to create a community-empowered fishery model balancing endangered species conservation and fisheries livelihoods in Bangladesh.

Mohammad Taqi Yasir
City, University of London
A dynamic Bangladeshi development practitioner, lawyer, lecturer, and entrepreneur, Mohammad Yasir has worked on implementing transformative initiatives in Bangladesh. His organization Footsteps Bangladesh serves hundreds of thousands of people across 37 districts through community-centric projects in WASH, climate action, public health, disaster response, green energy, and more. He was recognized by Forbes 30 under 30 Asia (2022) for Social Impact.

Syeda Samara Mortada
University of York
An activist and SRHR expert, Samara serves as Partner-Coordinator at Bonhishkha, a feminist organization in Bangladesh, dismantling gender stereotypes. She's a core organizer of the RageAgainstRape movement and a member of Feminists Across Generations. An IVLP and Acumen Fellow, she previously supported global SRHR movements at SheDecides and worked with the UN Women. Samara has initiated the WEPs process in Bangladesh and conducted HeForShe events.

 

Finalist - Social Action Award

Tanjila Mazumder Drishti
University of Sussex
A development practitioner and women’s rights advocate, Drishti inspires young girls and women globally. Currently serving as the Regional Lead for Asia at BRAC International, she has been globally recognized for her commitment to equality while developing large-scale development interventions. Drishti was honored as a Women Deliver Young Leader, SDG Global Talent – UNLEASH, Ambassador in Action by One Young World and Face of Change by Hong Kong AUWSF.
