British Council IELTS Scholarships 2018

The British Council IELTS Scholarships scheme was first introduced in 2015 with an aim to make foreign education more accessible to Bangladeshi students. Overwhelmed by the response, the scheme was re-launched in August 2016 to continue to support IELTS candidates in achieving their dreams of a foreign education. Last year, five winners from across the country were awarded a scholarship worth BDT 300,000 each. Study destinations include UK, Australia, Malaysia and Germany.

This year, with British Council IELTS Scholarships 2018, we are also making this scholarship available to students who are planning to pursue their higher education in Bangladesh. We are offering three scholarships worth BDT 300,000 each to study abroad and four scholarships worth BDT 150,000 each to study in-country. The core ethos of this scheme is to enhance ‘access to higher education’, thus building the foundation for a stable, economically prosperous and more equal Bangladesh.

FAQs

I didn’t take my IELTS with the British Council, can I still apply?

Taking IELTS with the British Council is an essential eligibility criterion.

Am I eligible for a scholarship even though I already have part-funding through another scholarship or loan scheme?

You are eligible. However, applicants with full-funding are not eligible.

Can I apply if I am already enrolled in a degree course at a university?

Yes and No – Students applying for the scholarship to study at a Bangladeshi university are eligible whereas students applying to study at a foreign institution are not.

How will the scholarship be awarded and when?

The scholarship will be disbursed directly to the university you are attending after the British Council has officially confirmed your status with the university.

What expenses will the scholarship cover?

The scholarship amount will be paid towards your tuition fees.

Can I send an application if I have registered for an IELTS test and have not yet taken it, or if I am currently waiting for my IELTS test results?

You can only apply once you have received your IELTS score, and your score must meet the minimum eligibility criteria, which is an overall band score of 6.

Can I apply if I am waiting for an acceptance letter from my university?

Yes. Only shortlisted applicants need to provide a letter of acceptance/offer from the attending university.

I have a disability. Can I still apply?

We will shortlist all applicants with a disability provided they meet the essential eligibility criteria. In line with the UK Disability Discrimination Act 1995, we define a person as having a disability if he or she has a physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
