Role overview
Purpose of the job:
To help develop and implement the communications strategy and manage the Digital Officer for EU-funded ‘Platforms for Dialogue: Strengthening Inclusion and Participation in Decision Making and Accountability Mechanisms in Bangladesh’ Platforms for Dialogue also involves capacity-building training in communication for a range of stakeholders, including government staff. The Senior Communication Officer will contribute to the design - and, possibly, delivery - of this training with project contracted training providers.
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Support and work with the P4D team on the strategic communication agenda.
- Work closely with P4D’s Strategic Communications Lead and Senior Management Team on the design and delivery of a communication strategy.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of the P4D social communications campaign, initially at District level.
- Identify and build relations with official bodies responsible for government communication.
- Develop and maintain contact with a wide range of editors, journalists and other interested media professionals in Bangladesh.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with outreach staff and facilitators at community information hubs located throughout Bangladesh to facilitate the process of identifying and documenting stories.
- Write and edit case studies for use by both Communications and Research, Evaluation & Learning teams.
- Contribute to the writing and editing of P4D reports to the donor.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of capacity-building training for government officials.
- Monitor the print and broadcast media for news, articles and content relevant to the P4D mission.
- Work closely with the Digital Officer to commission the sourcing and creation of high-quality, high-impact content for the P4D website and other digital channels.
- Support the delivery of capacity-building training for P4D’s partners on communication and storytelling.
- Ensure all activities and requirements outlined in the Communications & Visibility Plan are effectively carried out to achieve project deliverables in compliance with European Union and British Council communication guidelines.
- Provide support for the management of events with which P4D is associated.
- Manage the Digital Officer.
And is required to have the following skills and experience:
- Having a Bachelor’s Degree in media, journalism, communications or another closely related subject. For exceptional candidates without a degree, substantial experience working at a senior level in a recognised organisation will be accepted.
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Bangla to a professional standard.
- Proven ability to edit content (text stories, case studies and other formats) to a high standard in English and Bangla.
- At least five years’ experience working in a development project or a recognised media organisation.
- Proven ability to translate complex, detailed material into clear, high-quality communication outputs.
- A self-starter with substantial experience of working independently.
- Experience designing and delivering training in communication.
- Experience of collaborative team working and line management of junior staff.
- Candidates must have the right to live and work in Bangladesh.
