The British Council Bangladesh has recently launched the computer-delivered testing format for IELTS. They will be offering this testing format in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet.

The new computer-delivered solution is secure and capable of delivering the world-leading security, quality assurance measures and operational benefits that IELTS is renowned for. IELTS on a computer does not replace paper-based IELTS but rather offers a choice in delivery and more availability.

Test takers can now choose the option and time to take IELTS that best works for them. They can also get their test outcome faster, with results typically available between five to seven calendar days after the test has been completed. The test content, timing, and structure remain the same in both options and, importantly, the Speaking test remains face-to-face with a certified IELTS Examiner.

Whether test takers take IELTS on paper or on computer, they can be confident that they are taking the same trusted English language test. Test takers who choose the option of computer-delivered IELTS can access support materials with which they can prepare for taking IELTS on a computer.

Regarding this, Sebastian Pearce, Director Examination, British Council in Bangladesh said, “It’s great to give candidates a choice of times and days. It’s also an opportunity for test takers to see our office at the Dhaka University campus.”

IELTS is one of the world’s most popular high-stakes English language tests, with over three and a half million tests taken in the past year, and is recognized by more than 10,000 universities, schools, employers and immigration bodies. More and more people around the world need to know English for a chance to study, work or move abroad. Through IELTS, the British Council is opening a door to these life-changing opportunities for millions of aspiring people around the world.

The test takers can sit for a computer-delivered IELTS with the British Council in the following locations:

Dhaka: British Council, 5 Fuller Road, Dhaka 1000

Chattogram: British Council, Rafique Tower, Floor 8, 92 Agrabad, Chattogram 4100

Notes to Editor

IELTS on the computer was launched in Australia in December 2017 and is now being introduced across the IELTS testing network. The test is the same as paper-based IELTS for content, scoring, level of difficulty, question format and security arrangements. IELTS on a computer includes Listening, Reading and Writing. The Speaking test will continue to be face-to-face, as it is a more reliable indicator of communication and it is what our customers tell us feels more natural for them.

This new option will not replace paper-based IELTS but rather offer a choice in delivery and more availability. Results from IELTS on the computer are available between 5-7 days after taking all four test sections.

The IELTS partners are committed to continuous investment in test development in order to enhance the IELTS experience.
