Cambridge International Examinations, world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications in association with the British Council, Bangladesh, today announced the winners of the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, Bangladesh at a hotel in Dhaka. The awards celebrated outstanding academic achievements of secondary school learners in Bangladesh in the November 2014 and June 2015 Cambridge examination series. Winners at different categories were all presented with certificates.
Professor AKM Saiful Majid, Director of the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka, was present at the event as Chief Guest. Other esteemed guests at the event included Alison Blake; British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, and Barbara Wickham, Country Director of British Council Bangladesh; Guy Chapman, Deputy Director, International Network, Cambridge International Education; Ruchira Ghosh, Regional Director South Asia, Cambridge International Examinations and Martin Lowder, Head of Client Relations of British Council.
The welcome speech at the event was delivered by Barbara Wickham. The honourable British High Commissioner, the Chief Guest, and Guy Chapman, Deputy Director, International Network, Cambridge International Examinations also expressed their appreciation and views through respective speeches.
Professor AKM Saiful Majid, Chief Guest at the event, said in his speech, “It is very exciting to be among the brightest young minds of the country and to be invited as chief guest of honour of this prestigious event. I have high expectations for the achievers and for the country. And very sincerely appreciate British Council and Cambridge International Examinations for encouraging and acknowledging the efforts of the high achievers.”
Mr Guy Chapman, Deputy Director - International Network, Cambridge International Examinations said: "It is a proud moment for us to celebrate our outstanding learners from across Bangladesh. Our programmes are designed to prepare students with the knowledge and skills that they need to succeed in education and life so I am delighted to recognise so many great achievements today."

61 learners from 20 schools celebrated their exceptional performance in Cambridge examinations at the event. This year, 22 Cambridge learners achieved the highest marks in the world in Cambridge International AS, A Level and O Level subjects. In total, 29 learners attained the highest marks in Bangladesh in a single subject. These students excelled in a diverse range of subjects including Maths, Chemistry and Economics.
The awards also celebrated the achievements of those learners who have been recognised for ‘High Achievement’ based on outstanding performance in subjects which are not yet so widely taken in Bangladesh and learners who have achieved the total highest cumulative marks across a number of subjects. The winning learners out-performed thousands of candidates worldwide who sat for Cambridge O Level, Cambridge IGCSE®, Cambridge International AS & A Level examinations.
