To help more people access an international education experience, The British Council has introduced the British Council IELTS Scholarship. This year, five applicants planning to attend an undergraduate or postgraduate programme in an IELTS Recognising Organization overseas will each receive a scholarship worth GBP 2,500 an equivalent of BDT 300,000. Scholarship payments will be made to the respective higher educational institution in order to assist the awarded students with their tuition fees.
Bangladeshi students applying to higher education institutions in Australia, Canada, the US, the UK and other countries in 2015/16 will be considered eligible to apply for the scholarship, given that the institution recognises IETLS as part of their admission requirements. The students must have appeared for their IELTS exam between 1 August, 2015 and 2 February, 2016, and must have obtained a relevant IELTS score with a minimum overall band score of 6.
Candidates eligible to apply for the scholarship must download the application form from www.britishcouncil.org.bd, and ensure that the original hard copy of the completed application reaches the British Council in Dhaka, Chittagong or Sylhet before 22 February, 2016. The initial shortlisted candidates will be notified on 25 February, 2016. In the second stage, 20 applicants will be shortlisted based on their essay submitted on a given topic. Short-listed applicants will be required to attend an interview by an assessment panel on 3 March, 2016. By 3 March, 2016, the applicants must provide the British Council an acceptance/offer letter from the university they plan to attend. All short-listed candidates will be notified of the final result by e mail on 10 March, 2016.
Students who have received part funding from their respective universities are eligible to apply for the scholarship, but those who have received full funding will be held ineligible, since the scholarship is targeted to assist students with payment of university funding only. Students with disabilities may also apply. All applying students are advised to Like the British Council Exams’ page on Facebook, since it will be held as a criteria for initial selection.
