There are many thinkers who thought of the theories of how the aeroplane flies but has anyone ever thought of who is responsible for the aircraft’s better performance. I, Kaniz Fatema Muna, am none other different than those who always thought of how the aircraft flies and have dreamed and passionate about being a pilot.
The first time I made an international flight to Singapore with an Airbus aircraft A330-300 of Singapore airlines, I really got interested to know about how the aircraft flies. Then I started to dream of becoming a pilot and was waiting for the time for completing my O levels and A Levels.
But when I completed my O levels and was about to visit the UK for my vacation, my flight was delayed due to some maintenance problems. When I asked one of the staff, he said there was some leakage in the oil system of the aircraft I was about to fly with. Hence, taking the safety of the passengers into account, the flight was delayed. This incident hit my brain. The pilots just fly the aircraft just as the drivers’ drive a car, but the main hero behind an aircraft performance or proper flying is the manufacturer, engineers or technicians involved in the maintenance of the aircraft.
This is because they ensure the passenger safety by properly manufacturing or properly inspecting whether the aircraft is airworthy and fit for flight. From that moment, I started to think differently. I started to research about it. Then I got admitted in ND (National Diploma) in Aeronautical engineering in United College of Aviation. Aeronautical Engineering is the study or practice of building and maintenance of an aircraft. Here in this course, I got the basic knowledge of the maintenance of an aircraft and how making an aircraft airworthy and fit for flight.
As Bangladesh is still underdeveloped in this sector, I started researching where I can complete my Bachelors and also take the license to become LAME (Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer). As I am a regular visitor of the British Council events and seminars, I went to a UK exhibition where I saw many university representatives talking about their subjects and campuses. Here I got some more information about the subject. Then I found the Kingston University of London to be the most effective one as they provide the Bachelor’s degree along with EASA modules to be completed to become a LAME.
So I applied to Kingston University for doing BSC in aircraft maintenance engineering through UCAS, and luckily I got accepted by the university as my results already met the university requirements. Therefore, once I complete my last semester of ND in July 2017, I will be going to the UK for my further studies in Aircraft Engineering.
Now I have an aim to complete my graduation and activate my license after getting some years of practical experience in any reputed airlines and then come back to Bangladesh and bring out some changes in the aviation world of my country.
