The British Council in Bangladesh hosted their first annual Principals’ Forum at the British Council auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday, 27 September 2018. This networking event brought together educational leaders from the British Council’s 130+ Partner Schools Global Network (PSGN) schools in Bangladesh – the schools that partner with the British Council to deliver UK school qualifications, partners from the awarding bodies Cambridge Assessment International Education and Pearson Edexcel, as well as the decision-making body of the British Council.
Sebastian Pearce, Director Examinations Bangladesh, British Council shared the updates on the development opportunities offered by the British Council to its Partner Schools Global Network (PSGN). With the aim to promote child-safe schools and to raise awareness among the school leaders, a Child Protection awareness session was conducted by Tanzina Akter, Child Protection Manager, British Council. The session covered vital child protection issues faced and addressed in the schools and emphasised on the establishment and practice of formal child protection policies and procedures in the institutions.
Dr Ainun Nishat, a recognised pioneer in water resource and climate change specialist in Bangladesh, was present at the event as chief guest. He gave an inspirational talk on his views regarding the importance of a safe and healthy environment and how our actions can impact the future surroundings of the coming generations. Dr Nishal urged teachers, students and leaders in the field of education to be aware of climate change and its and act responsibly for the sustenance of a better future.
The event ended with celebrations. The regional winners of “Your World”, the global film-making competition for students of PSGN schools were awarded. The participants are from Maple Leaf International School in Dhaka. Additionally, PSGN school leaders who participated in the international conference “Schools Now!”, which was held in Jordan earlier this year, received their “Certificates of Participation”.
The Principals’ Forum is a flagship event for senior school stakeholders. The British Council provides a chance for them to come together in their efforts to further their goals for academic excellence and improved learning outcomes for students of the British school system in Bangladesh.
