At the British Council, your health and safety come first. We are closely following and implementing guidance from government authorities to ensure the continued well-being of our community.

In light of the rapidly evolving Covid-19 situation and the prevailing uncertainty, we would like to reassure you that our duty of care towards you is of paramount importance. We would like to highlight the relevant measures we have taken to protect all our test-takers.

Please inform us immediately if

  • you are under 14-day compulsory quarantine, stay-at-home order, medical surveillance or a self-quarantine order, as specified by the Bangladesh Government
  • you have been in contact with any person suspected to be exposed to Covid-19
  • you have a cold, fever (temperature of more than 37.5 degrees Celsius/ 99.5 Fahrenheit), are short of breath or have flu-like symptoms.

If any of the above applies to you, please email us at bd.enquiries@britishcouncil.org  and we will reschedule your test accordingly.

On the test day, you will need to sign a health declaration form confirming the above.

On the test day

  • Your temperature will be taken before you enter the test centre
  • You will be required to wear a mask, that covers your mouth and nose. You may be requested to remove this for identification and after any toilet breaks to confirm the identity
  • You will be asked to keep a minimum of 1.5 meters distance from other test-takers and staff
  • Please follow basic hygiene practices, such as using hand-sanitiser available at the test centre and wash your hands regularly
  • We are meticulously sanitising all venues and equipment including computers before the start of every test
  • Staff and examiners will wear a facemask on test day
  • Designated bins for mask disposal are available at all test venues
  • Test-takers should take all used stationery with them at the end of the test.

After your test

  • If you are diagnosed with Covid-19 less than 14 days after you have taken your IELTS test, you are requested to report this to your test centre by email. This will help us to communicate with other test takers and follow the government advice

Covid-19 FAQs

When is the earliest available date for IELTS exams?

Test dates are available online for registration. However, it may change based on current situation and government directives.

When will refund be provided?

We usually process refunds within two to three weeks’ time from the date we receive complete information. However, owing to national lockdown it may take longer time for the processing.

Can I transfer to the next available date for an IELTS exam?

Yes, the exam can be transferred to a later available date without any additional charges. Please write your request to bd.enquiries@britishcouncil.org.

Will I be charged a transfer fee or admin fee to reschedule my exam date?

In the current situation, we are not charging any admin fee to reschedule the exam.

What will happen if my rescheduled exam is postponed again?

In a case where the rescheduled exam is postponed to another date, you shall receive an email confirming the same. The test details will be shared at least four days prior to the test date.

Is it possible to receive a full refund and a transfer with no deductions?

You can avail either of them.

How can I get my results if your offices are closed?

The IELTS results are available online. Also, if we are unable to dispatch your TRF (Test Report Form) we will email you the TRF Number which can be used.

Will the reschedule exams remain at same date/time?

We are trying our best to accommodate candidates as per their preferred exam date; however, we must align our exam dates with government policies prevalent in that city.

Will computer-based exams continue as schedule?

If my exam is blocked for a date after quarantine has ended, will my test still take place?

Yes. If you have booked an exam for a date after quarantine, then there will be no postponement.

What are the differences between the computer delivered and paper-based test formats?

The major difference is results for Computer Delivered is released between five to seven days; and for Paper-based, the result is released on the thirteenth day.  Rest all aspects of the IELTS test are the same such as the content, scoring, level of difficulty, and type of question in the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections.

How long will the British Council IELTS exams be suspended?

We are trying our best to resume our services at the earliest; however, we must align our operations with government policies prevalent in that city/country.

Can I cancel and request a refund if I can’t travel to the country of my exam?

Yes.

Can I pay for my exam online?

Yes, our online registration system and payment systems are in place for candidates to book an IELTS exam with us.

I registered for an exam through a British Council partner. How can I get a transfer?

We are making every attempt to contact the candidates to choose the next test date. In case you haven’t been contacted yet, please write to us at bd.enquiries@britishcouncil.org  along with passport number, date of exam and next preferred date and city.

Has the result timeline changed?

No. However, delivery of TRF may be impacted, depending on courier service availability in the country where you are taking the exam.

Can you send a confirmation to my university that my exam was cancelled?

Yes. Please write to us at bd.enquiries@britishcouncil.org along with student id/enrolment number with the University and email ID.
