In the spirit of building cultural bridges between the UK and the countries in which it operates, the British Council in Bangladesh participates in many national and historically significant events. As in the previous years, we took part in the month-long Ekushey Book Fair held at Bangla Academy between 1 and 28 February 2019. Ekushey Book Fair is the country’s largest and the most prestigious book fair held to commemorate the historic Language Movement of 21 February 1952. Despite the occasional hurdle of unusual rains this time of the year, the festival witnessed a massive gathering of authors, publishers, students, intellectuals, media and mass book-lovers throughout the month.

To make this year more attractive to the visitors of the British Council corner, our Cultural Centre team, ran several engaging events. We held many interactive sessions, games and storytelling programmes for children and including IELTS consultancy for adults. There were also micro bit programming workshops, a software coding programme workshop for children. Additional to offering membership discounts, we also spread the word of the enriched digital library collection for people using tabs and smartphones.

A Digital Wall was also displayed with QR codes at the British Council corner, using which people were able to access the books from the Digital Library directly.
