Edexcel High Achievers' Award 2015 was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on 6 February 2016. Pearson Edexcel, the largest awarding body in the UK and a part of Pearson, in collaboration with the British Council, conducted this academic award ceremony for the students who achieved outstanding results in their International-GCSE and A level examinations in 2015. A total of 589 high achievers were chosen from the four different categories.
Mr. Junaid Ahmed Palak, MP, honourable minister for ICT, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, was present in the award ceremony as the chief guest and handed over the certificates to the awardees. HE Ms. Allison Blake, the British High Commissioner, Ms. Barbara Wickham, Director, British Council Bangladesh and Mr. David Crowther, Director International Products and Global Partnerships, Pearson Qualifications were also present in the occasion as special guests.
State Minister for ICT, Mr.Junaid Ahmed Palak said recognising the outstanding achievement of these brilliant students will work as a great encouragement for their future study and career through which, our country can be benefitted. He also said that our country needs more scientists, doctors and more researchers who can help develop the economy of Bangladesh and change the quality of lives. He also added that the improvement in the education sector is high on Government’s agenda and we all need to come forward and think how we can improve the quality of education in the country.
HE Ms. Allison Blake assured that the UK government is always trying to maintain the highest quality of UK qualifications, so that anyone doing a UK qualification can build their career and contribute the best to their country and society.
Mr. David Crowther, Director International Products and Global Partnerships, highlighted that Pearson Edexcel has been offering its International GCSE and A Level qualifications in Bangladesh for last 44 years with the support of the British Council Bangladesh. More than 16,000 students currently sit these examinations in Bangladesh twice a year.
Ms. Barbara Wickham, Director, British Council, Bangladesh, congratulated all the high achievers on their academic success and wished them the very best in their future endeavours. She said that Pearson Edexcel is one of the largest awarding bodies in the UK and the British Council has been conducting these examinations in Bangladesh for last 44 years successfully. She also added that British Council will continue to create opportunities for Bangladeshi students to get the best qualifications, so that they can create their better future.
Bangladesh is one of the key countries where a large number of students seek Edexcel qualifications every year. Many of them go for higher studies in world’s most prestigious universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, MIT, etc. A large number of these students are also studying in both public and private universities in Bangladesh.
