The British Council inaugurated satellite library at Southern University Chittagong on 30 October 2016 with the aim to serve students who cannot travel to distant libraries because of their jobs, financial limitations, family responsibilities or other factors. The British Council donated books to Southern University authority from the withdrawn collection to serve 700 students per semester through the satellite library. The main objective is to build the reading habit among the students of Southern University Chittagong and to enhance their English language skills abreast.
The event started with the welcome speech from Ali Ashraf, Pro Vice Chancellor, Southern University. “A satellite library is a library room for the birthplace of ideas, a place where history comes to life”, said Ali Ashraf. They are looking forward to having induction session on Learn English Website for the teachers and students of Southern University in near future. Jim Scarth, Deputy Director, British Council, Sarwat Reza, Library Manager, British Council and Mashudul Alam, Library Coordinator, British Council were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
