The British Council Bangladesh held a signing of Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Dhaka to introduce 'Citizenship Education and Community Engagement Programme' at the University of Dhaka.
British Council has been working with the young people through a co-ordinated Civil Society Partner Network to support them by bringing the expertise in the area of society and developing partnerships on behalf of the UK which contribute to the Security and Prosperity agenda. In an attempt to sustain and build on what has already been achieved through the CSO partnership, an idea was developed to mainstream the learning journey and offer it as a course entitled 'Citizenship Education and Community Engagement' in the tertiary education sector.

This MoU signing programme will introduce that particular course in six departments of Social Science faculty in undergraduate level to setup institutionalized avenues for students to engage in community service.
The course offers a comprehensive package to University students that cover training on leadership, opportunities for sustained community engagement, and a chance to participate in youth exchanges and policy dialogues at both the national and international level. This programme also offers an opportunity to faculty members to build their capacity as facilitator by enhancing their understanding on Global Citizenship and participatory methodologies as well as widens their network in the region and beyond.
Adrian Greer, Chief Operating Officer of British Council and Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka signed the MoU representing respective organisations. Stephan Roman, British Council’s Regional Director for South Asia; Barbara Wickham, Country Director of British Council Bangladesh; Dr. Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), University of Dhaka along with the University Treasurer and Dean of Arts and Social Science Faculties were also present at the MoU signing ceremony.
