The library is the principal platform in Bangladesh for delivering our cultural relations ambition – connecting people to opportunities. Magic Box brings a large collection of valuable resources for young learners that include the best collection of fiction and non-fiction in English for the children in the school premises.
From early 1950’s, the British Council is offering library services from their Dhaka and Chittagong library. Students and faculties of the nearby educational institutions are mostly the customers for using the resources. We started offering digital resources for customers who wants remote access. But there is a great need for the physical resources that we have in our collection. To meet the need of customers and save their time, the British Council is offering a service to the educational institutions who are interested in working with us for the benefit of their students. Through this Magic Box service, members can get access to 'Best of British' resources for young learners, develop the reading habit and acquire language skills.
The British Council has launched the Magic Box service in Frobel School in Chittagong on 9 February 2017 through a ceremony at the school premises. The school has availed this service for 100 students. All the members have received Magic Box containing membership forms, membership cards, log books and pencil boxes. Magic Box service is an annual offer and the books will be refreshed quarterly so that the members can get access to the latest version of the books regularly. At the end of the year, depending on the number of books read, the Magic Box members will be awarded certificates and gifts.
Barbara Wickham, Country Director, British Council inaugurated the ceremony. School heads, teachers, guardians and students were present at the ceremony. The school authority and guardians were pleased to have this service in their door steps and appreciated the new initiative a lot. The Magic Box service was also launched in Chittagong Cantonment community for 50 kids and different schools in the Dhaka city are showing their interest to avail the magic box service from March onwards.
