World book day book reading competition prize giving ceremony

The British Council and Daffodil Education Network (DEN) today jointly awarded 65 winners of a nationwide book reading competition organised last June in observation of World Book Day 2015. The prize giving ceremony was held at the British Council in Fuller Road. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka graced the event as Chief Guest and Md. Sabur Khan, CIP, Chairman, Daffodil Group was present as special guest. 

This year, around 3,000 people countrywide participated in the competition under four groups: A (Class I-IV), B (Class VI-VIII), C (Class IX-XII) and D (any adult). With the theme ‘Own a book, read a book’, the book reading competition aimed to create new readers and to popularise English reading habit among students and mass people. 

The 65 winners were chosen from among the participants through a short test held in September, 2015, and were presented with prizes and certificates. Top winners from each category were awarded with a laptop each. The top winners are Humaira Habib Oroni from Group A, Siddhartha Sankar Das from Group B, Tama Chowdhury from Group C and Ramita Atiq from Group D respectively. Each participants were given a certificate of attendance.

Matt Pusey, Deputy Director, British Council Bangladesh and Md Nuruzzaman, Executive Director, Daffodil Education Network were among those present during the event. The competition is one of British Council’s many endeavors to contribute to the education sector in Bangladesh.
