Financial literacy is the ability to use knowledge and skills to make effective and informed money management decisions. Financial literacy inculcates the ability to be both financially literate and financially capable. Knowledge of this component helps in the transition from childhood to adulthood and the development of financially responsible citizens.
As part of the British Council Cultural Centre’s outreach projects, we have partnered with the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) to deliver this Financial Literacy project.
Our approach
For the last two years, we have organised awareness events with children, their parents and teachers during the Global Money Week celebrations, the responses of which were welcoming. Parents and school leads showed great interest in working with us in this aspect.
According to the project outline, we will reach 20 schools in total from Dhaka and Chattogram, who are already connected with us in various projects.
Our approach contains three different phases, that are:
Activities
- Curriculum development
- Teacher training in Dhaka and Chittagong
- School-based activities with the children
