It has been a grand opening to 2019 for the student winners of the Pearson Edexcel High Achievers Awards. On 25 January 2019, Pearson’s largest qualification brand ‘Edexcel’, in collaboration with the British Council, has conducted their 7th Academic Award Ceremony for the students who achieved outstanding results in their International GCSE and A Level examination in 2018.
A staggering number of 689 students received Edexcel awards in four different categories. 572 students won awards for obtaining 7 ‘A’ and ‘A*’ grades in one sitting, and 8 ‘A/A*’ grades or more in two sittings in International GCSE. Eighty students received awards for obtaining 4 ‘A’/A*’ grades in one sitting in International A Levels, and 37 proud students achieved the world highest marks in individual subjects.
To mark this occasion as a notable one, Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education was present in this grand award ceremony as the Chief Guest. Kanbar Hossein-Bor, British Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh; Andrew Newton, Deputy Director British Council Bangladesh; Ben Greshon, International Portfolio Manager of Pearson UK; and Harish Doraiswamy, Vice President, Pearson South Asia were also present in the occasion as special guests along with other senior officials of Pearson and British Council.
Andrew Newton addressed the ecstatic achievements of an overwhelming number of young Bangladeshi students in his speech. He said, “The exemplary performance of the students every year in the examination is a strong proof that these students have the potential to contribute to the continued economic progress of the country in their journey to develop a better world.”
The happy winners huddled together to capture their memorable moments with group photos. The awards ceremony was extensively covered by all the national newspapers, online news portals, television and radio channels.
Bangladesh is one of the key countries where many students attend Pearson Edexcel qualifications and every year many of the high achievers go to universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, MIT, LSE etc. and to the leading public and private universities in Bangladesh.
