The British Council, in collaboration with JAAGO Foundation, organised WOW Dhaka: Sylhet Chapter in the historic city of Sylhet in September 2018. The event was held at the Abul Mal Abdul Muhit Krira Complex in Sylhet.

The chapter featured WOW bites where six local women talked about the stories of their success and struggles; a panel discussion on the achievements and challenges of the women living in Sylhet. The marketplace in Sylhet chapter showcased ten stalls with products, innovative services, and business models mostly run by women. While merging the global with the local, WOW Dhaka: Sylhet Chapter featured a traditional dance performance of Shantona-a Monipuri dance troupe, a stage drama by Sylhet-based troupe Nattomoncho Sylhet, and a musical performance by Sylhet’s favourite band ‘Shikorh’.

The programme was attended by Kanbar Hossain-Bor, Deputy High Commissioner, British High Commission Dhaka.  Among other notable guests were Shornolota Roy, President, Sylhet Women Chambers of Commerce and Industries and Amina Parvin, Professor, Department of Social Work, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
