Date
Saturday 18 March 2017 to Thursday 30 March 2017

The Active Citizens Regional Achievers’ Summit 2017 was organised by the British Council to recognise the best Social Action Projects (SAP). The annual summit provides a platform for the involved Active Citizens who are youth leaders of Bangladesh to showcase and get recognised for their exciting activities which bring about positive social change.

“This is the first time I am attending this kind of event and I am very excited. I believe, if all the youth leaders work together, one day we will be able to bring about positive change to the society, and the day is not so far”, said Sadia Rahman Oishe, one of the Active Citizens at the Active Citizens Regional Achievers’ Summit 2017. She was expressing her thoughts while showcasing her team’s SAP. Oishe’s team implemented the SAP in Chittagong. Their SAP works for unprivileged children of slum area named Jhautola in Chittagong by inspiring them through different creative activities that motivate them to keep aside from criminal activities. This is one of the many Social Actions Projects that were showcased during the Active Citizens Regional Achievers’ Summit 2017. It was organised throughout March 2017 in Khulna, Chittagong and Rajshahi in order to recognise the outstanding achievements of the Active Citizens gained through their SAPs.

These summits recognised 41 projects among 280 Social Action Projects. The social action projects were showcased in the stalls highlighting their work, objectives, challenges and achievements. A panel of judges assessed their merits and awarded the best ranking SAPs with crests- a token of appreciations of their hard work. The summits hosted interactive plenary sessions, panel discussions engaging more than 2137 young people and 462 policy makers and guests to make interaction among the youth and sector experts and local influencers.
