Cancelling your IELTS test

Please download the British Council Bangladesh IELTS cancellation, transfer and refund policy from the 'Downloads' section of this page.

Please note it can take four to six weeks to process.

No refunds will be allowed for IELTS within five weeks of the test date. Exemptions from this policy are:

  • A traumatic experience
  • Domestic crisis
  • Unavoidable legal or military obligation
  • Serious medical conditions which prevent you from attending or performing normally on test day
  • Bereavement, or other forms of significant hardship
  • Civil unrest, extreme weather.

To cancel your IELTS (Academic or General Training) test in Bangladesh, please log in to the Test Taker Portal and submit an IELTS cancellation request. Also upload your supporting documentation/evidence.

To cancel your IELTS for UKVI or Life Skills test, please fill in a Refund Application Form. After you submit the form you will receive an email with further instructions to complete the request.

If a medical certificate confirming illness on the date of the test is provided within three working days of the test date, together with the submitted cancellation request on the Test Taker Portal or Refund Application Form, the IELTS test fee is refundable, minus the administration fee.

Only medical certificates in local language or English are accepted. If we have not received your submitted cancellation request along with an upload of supporting documentation/evidence on the Test Taker Portal or Refund Application Form within two days after the test, you will be marked as absent and forfeit all claims.

Please note that we do not accept sick notes issued by family members.

How to request an IELTS test day transfer
